- We now source the “Original 4” from bamboo forests that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. These forests are certified to have been environmentally well managed using socially fair practices. The FSC is the most respected forest certification system on the globe - supported by scientists, environmentalists, governments and forest industries. Some of the strict criteria the forest managers have to meet are: no illegally logged bamboo stalks, low-to-no use of pesticides and fertilizer, protection of water resources and endangered species, protection of forest workers rights and protection of the long term health of the surrounding communities who depend on the forest for income. Bamboo is a renewable resource, but how was it grown and how was it harvested? These are the questions the FSC certification answers for those of us truly committed to treading lightly on the Earth.
The FSC-certified bamboo flooring Originals are manufactured with low emitting Scandinavian glues and coated with water-based, zero solvent finishes by Germany’s Treffert™.
These solid bamboo floors are not stained, so the colour you see goes all the way through the plank which helps hide any deep gouges. They are 50% more dimensionally stable than domestic red oak floors and can be installed by nailing over plywood or gluing down over concrete. Perfect for homes and condos and light commercial environments.
